Fear

Courage. 09

Chad Hopson. 31. Vincentian. Canadian. Toronto.

Define what courage means to you personally.

Courage is doing what you know is right, despite the fear of opposition.

What would you define as your current courage (i.e. physically, mentally, spiritually, etc.)

I become courageous when I think about my niece and nephews. I have a responsibility not only as an uncle but as a young man to make sure they are equipped mentally, emotionally and spiritually with the tools to deal with the ups and downs of life.

Do you feel you are changing perspective, creating new meaning during this time. If so simply explain.
My perspective hasn’t really changed much. I always knew what I needed to do, but was paralyzed by fear. This past year has only sped the process up for me, requiring me to act more and think less.

How you are conversing, doing, creating.
I’m fortunate enough to have an office space that acts as a creative lab. The space has allowed me to escape the chaos of the world around me and focus on creating meaningful works of art.

Recent realizations you have had.

I actually realized this earlier on, back in 2017, but have been rec that the thing you’re afraid of doing most is most often what you should be doing.

A song that define you right in this moment.

“I’m not one for many words anyway”

The punk-rock-emo vibe reminds me of high school. I was lost and had no idea who I was back then. Fast-forward to today, I’ve gotten closer to the man I dreamt of becoming.

On-going projects/projects you are thinking of starting.

I’ve recently finished self-publishing a children’s book called The Fear Theory. It teaches children the importance of creativity, compassion and emotions.

Where you gather inspiration from.

I get inspiration from my battle with depression as well as learning from others that have dealt with mental illness. Having a better understanding of it has allowed me to use what I went through as a form of creative expression.
